This is a dress I made for the Value Project for local store Practice Studio. The Value Project tracks the perceived value of clothing over time and interrogates how we can reduce waste through the design process. The project was to find a garment from the op shop with the original tags still attached, then turn it into something else and track its value which was then determined at an auction hosted in store. I bought a pair of unworn Lowes jeans for $20 which originally retailed for $39.95, and turned them into this asymmetrical mini dress which then sold for $70. I tried to keep lots of the details of the original jeans, (the wash where the original seams were, the dark indigo under the pockets, and the thick double topstitching) while creating something new with my own design aesthetic.
Here the design was shown on the runway at the Next Gen Group Show at Brisbane Fashion Festival, with other up cycled pieces from talented local designers.
